In my 20s, welcoming the new year seemed memorable and exciting. Happy people crowded outside, waiting for the countdown event. Even though there was nothing special in the year and the following year wouldn’t be different, there was a mysterious atmosphere that everything would be different next year.
This year, I even haven’t watched the event. I don’t remember when I started not watching year-end TV specials. I just had a typical day. One thing different was that I woke up at 7 AM. Recently, I purchased a smart lamp which I set the timer for turning on. It is an excellent tool to get up in the morning.
I visited a Korean supermarket, and there was no atmosphere of the new year. It was what it was. Would it be different in New York?
Since I’m a Korean, I should have seen the first sun rising in 2022. I googled ‘best sunrises in bay area’, and most results were in San Francisco. So, my friend and I went to the park near here.
There weren’t many people. If I were in Korea, at least a hundred people would be wherever I go. But here, at most 20 people were there. Even the temperature was not that cold. Only one thing terrible was that it was cloudy. I couldn’t see the moment the sun rose.
My friend’s family invited me to brunch. We headed to their home after catching sun-rising. Spending time with good people is valuable. I would never know this in Korea. Getting close to someone in the area is not easy for me.
Tteok-guk was delicious, and I can’t explain that. They boiled soup themselves instead of using instant soup. It was impressive since we used instant soup even when I was in Korea. I think that it was worth putting effort into it.
I shouldn’t forget the hospitality my friends provided me today.
Having a good habit is practically challenging. Anyone can explain the benefits of exercising, but few go to the gym every day.
The good thing is that I went to the gym every day last week. Due to COVID-19, few or no people work at the gym. So, I could freely work out without wearing a mask.
Some people try to work out at least 2 hours every day. What diligent people! I highly admire them, and I hope to have the habit. Currently, 1-hour exercise makes me exhausted.
That’s what I have failed to achieve every year.
– Having a good sleeping pattern is fundamental to a healthy life.
– Balanced nutrition and not drinking alcohol are too.
– Exercising as a hobby is helpful to both physical and mental health.
– Only focusing on one at a time is much easier than multitasking.
– Locking a phone while working boosts immersion.
– Learning a new thing can extend my thought.
– Help others and forget it.
Keeping them in mind and behaving like that is almost impossible but valuable as they are challenging.
Sometimes music is more than music. Recently, I’ve been into the artist ‘Lee mu-jin.’ Even though he hasn’t released many songs, his lyrics are refreshing, and the melody and voice emphasize it. People call him ‘2nd Kim Kwang Seok’. No one would doubt that he is promising. I also hope to discover more talented musicians like him.
