There is a Korean community named BAKG (Bay Area K-Group). This Friday, I attended the social networking event held by the group. I heard that many Korean googlers would attend this event. So, I wanted to get some internal information about the various teams.
Even though 60% of people were googlers, I mostly chatted with non-googlers. It was also a nice opportunity to meet people outside the company. Maybe this event would be the last time I can attend before having a birth.
The relationship is really like an edge of a network whose strength decays very soon. To make the relationship solid, we need to spend much time and take care of others sincerely. If not, networking is a waste of time. Therefore, this event was just literally an event to me.
BAKG also operates AI study group. It is a voluntary study group rather than a lecture. I’ve joined a group that reads SOTA papers every two weeks. My goal is to attend a meeting and successfully prepare my presentation even after my child is born.
Personally, I think that degree is the most inefficient way and the most formal way to prove professionalism and ability. Also, a degree is a gateway to starting a career in a specialized field.
Even though a Master’s degree is not seriously considered a professional, it guarantees at least two years of experience in the field. I’m trying to prove this experience if I can’t get an opportunity to do a career transition.
Stanford provides an opportunity to get a Master’s degree for professionals. Tuition is calculated based on how much credit I spent. One course usually costs 4k-5k. Hopefully, my company matches 2/3 of tuition up to 12k every year. So, I can enroll in up to four courses in a year.
I heard that the course is not that though but requires 10 hours per week. Just hope that I can nail it perfectly, only spending 5 hours.
Better than last week. The goal is to finish as much as I can before bonding leave. I can’t guess what is L4 scope and what is L5 scope. If the impact is only important, non-dominant PA is an absolutely wrong place for promotion.
My company gives 18 weeks of paid baby bonding leave. I’m planning to start to leave at the end of June. I was a little nervous about perf, but I just decided to don’t think about this.
Compared to other people, I’m really far behind them. If I just follow the way they did, I can’t overwhelm. Working hard is the best way to learn and grow skills, but it is not the best way to win a competition.
To get off the long waiting line, I need to have a different perspective, direction, and paradigm.
