Offsite
It’s inspiring that the new team held offsite even after cutting down the fun budget. The situation may vary on PAs. I’m lucky that I’m on the team that can spend some funding for the internal event. Since I can’t predict the future, I just decided to enjoy the present.
We visited a farm in half moon bay. When the bus was close to the location, I could see some farms which looked like an amusement park. The farm we visited was also one of them. It was a specialized spot for team building and activities.
On the farm, we did group activities like cooking, dining, and other mini-games. There was no fancy game. All the games were old-fashioned, and one was the stump game. And It was the best place to be separated from the city and be fully connected to nature.
And I could meet most of my teammates for the first time there. Most of them are still working from home or on vacation. Now, I feel more comfortable than I did the very first time.
Disquiet
Disquiet is an online community for startups. I registered for their program, and I just started the first-week challenge. The challenge itself is not challenging. In fact, it’s just posting at least one log every week.
For me, It’s hard to promote myself in front of people. Since entrepreneurs must be good at doing this, I want to develop the skill by participating in the program.
Many participants are entrepreneurs, and I want to get motivated by them. I aim to have as many coffee chats as possible and roughly understand the startup field.
I assume that networking is everything in this field. Trends and environments change so fast that nobody can cope with them alone. Therefore, finding a good person is the most challenging and critical as I think.
Code Interview
I had a coding interview with a startup. Even though I worried somewhat, I believe I did well.
Side Project
Recently, I met someone from Blind and built a team for the side project. The idea is fascinating, and the workload is moderate. In this project, I want to work as a PM and PGM rather than a software engineer.
I posted a hiring post to Blind and met two engineers. To be honest, I can’t guess how they can be successful in this project. But I belive good planning and managing can motivate teammates and increase productivity.
English
A year has passed since I arrived here. I wanted to know whether my English skill was improved or not. But I feel more comfortable talking with English speakers than before. In Korea, I rarely spoke with foreigners, and it was frustrating. I was just scared of talking with foreigners.
The one thing I overcame was the fear of speaking English. In fact, I’m familiar with speaking broken English. There’s a lot to improve, but at least I’m halfway to the goal. It’s totally thanks to destructive language environment change.
