사회에 나가서 좋은 인맥을 만드는건 정말 어렵다. 그게 쉽다면 굳이 부모들이 비싼 돈을 부담해가며 영어유치원, 사립초, 국제중, 명문고나 특목고 또는 국제고, 명문대 코스에 자녀를 보내려 할 필요가 없다. 저 정도 무리 없이도 사교육으로 명문대는 충분하다. 그럼에도 굳이 코스에 집착하는 이유는 미래에 자녀가 갖게 될 인맥 때문이다. 자신의 직업을 기준으로 알고 지내는 사람들의 다양성의 척도를 사회적 반경이라고 정의해보자. 대부분의 사람들의 자신의 직업군 내에서 업무적으로 마주치는 사람들과 친분을 갖는다. 그 이외에 영향을 미치는 요인은 친척이나 지역 정도가 된다.
내가 사교성이 좋고 주변 평판이 좋은 사람이더라도, 친분을 맺을 기회가 없는 사람과 친해질 수는 없다. 사회에서 직함을 달고 만나는 건 성장기 때의 만남과는 전혀 다르다. 유년기의 교류는 지위관계도 없으며, 그 시절의 추억과 이미지를 기억하는 과정에서 더욱 사이를 돈독하게 만든다. 이런 인적 자산은 후천적 노력으로는 만들어내기 힘들다. 또한 이런 형태의 자산은 시너지와 같기 때문에, 모든 사람이 인적 자산을 누리지는 못한다. 이들 중에서도 결과적으로 사회적으로 어느 정도의 성공을 거둔 이들만이 핵심적인 연결고리를 완성한다.
따라서 대중에게 공개적인 좋은 인맥풀은 존재할 수 없다. 이런 풀에 있는 사람들이 원하는 이들은 그곳에 있을 이유가 없다. 간혹 자수성가의 형태로 아웃라이어들이 있긴 하지만 소수이기 때문에 큰 의미가 없다. 현재 한국의 교육 시스템의 변화 방향은 계층을 더욱 확실히 구분하고 공교육에서 등장하는 아웃라이어의 수를 줄여나가는 쪽이다. 사회 문제로 지적되는 부나 권력의 세습이 일어날 수 있지만 큰 문제는 아니다. 그들은 정말 극소수에 불과하다. 정말 문제는 그들을 따라하려는 뜨내기들이다. A급이 아닌 이들이 A-를 자처하고, 또 다른 이들은 A–를 자처하는 과정에서 수많은 계층이 발생한다.
이런 계층화는 모두를 불행하게 만들고, 모두에게 계층의 상승은 성공을 준다는 환상을 심어준다. 겪어보면 알겠지만 절대 그렇지 않다. 모두가 꿈꾸는 환상의 경지에 오르기 위해선 훨씬 더 많은 계층을 상승해야한다. 한 두 번의 성공은 그다지 영양가가 없다. 그들의 그룹도 마찬가지다. 차라리 단순한 계층화와 높은 장벽을 공식화하고. 분배에 집중하는 것이 좋다. 현재의 사회는 패자를 경시하며 승자에 대한 보상 또한 적기 때문이다.
In this society, getting into descent social network is almost impossible. If it wasn’t so hard, why would parents try to make their children be on track : english kindergarden – private elementary school – prestigious or international high school – top ranked university spending a lot of money. Although It is enough with only private lesson to proceed top ranked university, they are obsessed with prestigious track because of the network their children get. Let’s define diversity scale of people who you get to know depending on your job as ‘social radius’. Most of people just have relationship with people who are in similar field or business related. Besides, family or living district would be another factor.
Even if i was extroverted or got a good reputation, I can’t be familiar with someone who i don’t have acquaintance with. Meeting someone with title in the society is totally different from getting to know someone when you are growing up. There’s no hierarchical relationship in childhood. Memories and images from that time would make their bond more solid as time goes on. This human asset couldn’t be achieved with efforts in adult’s society. Moreover, It is like synergy which can’t be acquired by everyone in the group. Only the members who accomplish something in the society can join the circle.
As a result, public-descent network doesn’t exist. The person that public wants doesn’t have any reason to be there. Occasionally there are some outliers, but there’s no meaning since they are just minority. And current public education system in Korea is going towards the way which makes classification and reduces outliers. Social problem like inheritance of wealth and power might occurred but it is not a big deal. The real problem is caused by people who mimic the nobel minority. People who aren’t exactly A class introduce new class like A- and make themselves distinct. And other people would introduce themselves as A–. This chain results infinite classes.It makes most of us unhappy and gives illusion that escalation means success. As you go through, it is clearly false. To reach everyone’s goal, you should take more step than you think. One or two success aren’t so much beneficial than you expect. Neither are those kinds of network. Rather, it is better to officialize the use of simple classification and high requirements and concentrate on distribution in low class group. Presently, society just despises the loser and gives low compensation to the winner.
