1st Anniversary

It’s been a year since I moved to the US. There are few special events and outcomes. I just struggled to survive here. I’m still not good at English and don’t hang out with foreign colleagues well. For me, assimilating into a foreign culture was challenging. However, I know that every immigrant experience the same.

Also, there’re some changes in my life. I work out much more frequently than I used to do in Korea. Furthermore, I learned about living in the US, for example, leasing an apartment, health insurance, driving, banking, and complaining. Finally, I found some decent Korean restaurants.

And my son was born this summer. I feel tremendous responsibility for him. I’m afraid of what will happen to us. Life is filled with uncertainty, and I have no idea whether he will think of himself as Korean or American. So, I have to be familiar with Korean and American cultures to make him comfortable living with us.

Return to work

Bonding leave will end next week, and I’ll be back in the office. For 18 weeks, I could spend some time working on my side project. I learned that developing a complete product from a rough idea is fun but requires a bunch of time.

I estimated how much time I would get after returning to the office. During weekdays, I can get 2.5hr spare time. On weekends, my spare time would be 5-6hr. It’s up to me to decide what to do. I only have 20hrs every week, and I can’t handle everything myself. Therefore, I need to hire someone or find coworkers to help me.
