Success or Death

The team transfer was finally approved, and I synced with the tech lead of the new team. Since my manager left the team right after hiring me, the skip manager would temporally manage me. For now, no one on the team would care me. I should ask my skip manager to send my self-introductory email to members.

The new project has a strict deadline. Even though the background and the goal are clear, designing and implementing will be hard. TL directly said that it would be stressful. Therefore, it would be extremely stressful.

It’s an opportunity to push and grow me. At least I have a project to work on. As a stranger who doesn’t have outstanding background and history, I have to prove my ability whenever I apply or change the team. It makes me nervous, but I know it’s always hard to go up.

Mindset is everything. If I fail, I die. Sometimes I don’t have control over what’s going on. Except for those cases, I should meet my expectation and be outstanding.

Ramping up

Quickly learning and applying new things are the most valuable skills for software engineers. Ramping up is always hard. Therefore, I need to get used to the ramping-up process itself.

I aim to get familiar with the skillset by the end of this year.

World Cup

Korean matches are scheduled at 5 am, and I only hear the result the following day. Knowing the result before watching is not fun, but I can’t avoid this.

Arcade Center

When I visited the arcade center in San Jose, I was surprised that there were a lot of people there. Unlike Korean arcade centers, It has a bar to order drinks and tables to play board games. There are also arcade machines, but they are all outdated. KOF 98 is the latest one.

Thanksgiving

This was the first thanksgiving that our family had together in the US. On Thanksgiving day, the family my wife knows invited us. On Saturday, we invited my friends and had dinner together.

It’s essential to have friends who share the same cultural background. As an immigrant, I feel it’s hard to understand and be involved in US culture. So, I prefer to have the same lifestyle as in South Korea. Having foreign friends are nice, but we need friends who can understand our background.
